THE MANNEQUIN FAMILY

Any garment design in the form of a drawing is never complete until it takes shape in ‘material’ form as pattern sheets and then as fabric cuts and draping. This stage of the design process often presents a number of issues which must be solved before the sewing can begin. The dress form mannequin makes all of this possible, as one of the most important ‘tools’ of the trade along with tailor’s scissors, thread, and sewing machinery.

Each morning when I enter my studio, the mannequins are the first things to attract my gaze. There is just something about them. They set a professional work atmosphere, inviting creative experimentation with patterns and designs.
